Lloyd Jury Gets Lesson in Drug Sales and Firearms

Sheriff's and DEA experts testify in the case of a slain El Capitan student.

The homicide trial continued Monday in the death of 17-year-old Christopher Carioscia, an El Capitan High School student whose body was found last year on the Barona Indian Reservation.

Jurors received a lesson in drug dealing and firearms as expert Drug Enforcement Agency and Sheriff's Department witnesses testified about different aspects of the case.

Stanley Virgil Lloyd Jr.—a Barona tribal member—is accused of first-degree murder in the death of his former elementary schoolmate.

A prescription fraud investigator with the DEA explained how the DEA and Sheriff's Department conducted a wiretap that recorded many conversations supposedly concerning illegal drug sales that Lloyd was involved in.

The DEA witness explained that, in his opinion, recorded phone calls obtained in the wiretap referred to marijuana and Xanax sales and purchases by Lloyd, and he provided clarification to the slang used in the conversations.

A series of recorded phone calls involved Lloyd, his mother and a friend discussing a debt, and the alleged purchase of large quantities of marijuana, according to the prosecution and DEA witness.

The firearms expert explained to the jury how fired ammunition could be traced back to the suspected murder weapon.

The case is being presented in Department 16 on the fourth floor of the El Cajon courthouse. The trial will be dark Wednesday through Friday of Thanksgiving week and will pick up again, if necessary, on the following Monday.
