San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant Problems Continue

The chairman of Nuclear Regulatory Commission will visit the plant Friday.

The twin reactors at the nuclear power plant have been idled while investigators determine why tubing carrying radioactive water is eroding at an unusual rate. Gregory B. Jaczko, the chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, will visit the plant Friday to highlight the agency's concern over the ailing equipment.

Just last week, the agency confirmed in a March 27 letter to Southern California Edison that the until the cause of  is fully diagnosed and fixed.

Experts have warned the lengthy  this summer, which could exascerbate SDG&E's claims to need peaker power plants like the proposed Quail Brush plant.
