Woman Accused of Lakeside SUV Assault to Stand Trial

A mother of two accused of trying to because the victim was romantically involved with the father of her children was ordered Thursday to stand trial on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious injury and making a criminal threat.

Beverly Floy Gligo, 36, faces four years and eight months in prison if convicted, according to Deputy District Attorney Ryan Karkenny.

Gligo was also charged with attempted murder and child abuse, but Judge Allan Preckel did not bind the defendant over on those charges following a morning preliminary hearing.

Eyewitness Melissa Bone testified she was driving on El Nopal in Lakeside about 3:30 p.m. on June 6 when she noticed two women fighting in the street.

One woman, identified as Raylien Paschke, got off Gligo and walked away, and the defendant got into her SUV and drove up a nearby driveway toward Paschke, who was then walking with a man, Bone testified.

"It (the SUV) went to hit the couple," the witness testified. "She (Paschke) got up and the car went to hit her again."

Paschke was struck in the leg and knocked into a wire fence. The man with whom she was walking was not hurt.

Paschke testified that she met the father of Gligo's children, Christopher Hartmann, last September and had no idea he was involved in a relationship with Gligo until Christmas.

The victim said she talked with Gligo on the phone and communicated on Facebook, and Gligo challenged her to fight.

"I'll be your worst nightmare," according to one of Gligo's postings read in court. "You knew I was pregnant and you didn't give a (expletive)."

On June 6, Paschke said she was checking the mail at the Lakeside home where she was living when Gligo pulled up and confronted her.

Paschke said she restrained Gligo by wrapping her hair around her wrist, socked her in the face, then pushed her away.

As she walked away and up the driveway, Paschke said Gligo got in her car and slammed into her.

Paschke said she was knocked unconscious, then woke up and heard the defendant screaming that she was going to  kill her.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Scott Enyeart, Gligo then tried to leave, but her SUV became wedged between a tree and a fence post.

Gligo's two children -- an infant and a 4-year-old -- were in the SUV during the fight, Karkenny said. The children were not hurt, and Gligo's mother took custody of them.

Defense attorney Anthony Solare said Gligo has a minor misdemeanor record and is a lifelong San Diego resident.

He said Gligo's baby was prematurely born and she has been suffering from postpartum depression.

Solare told a judge at Gligo's arraignment that the alleged victim was the aggressor in the fight, during which he said Gligo got a black eye.

A Superior Court arraignment was set for Aug. 23.
