Santana Teacher is Also an Author, New Book 'Amateur Angel'
A local English teacher writes the story of an angel who gets to watch over a teen-idol rock star.
An English teacher at has stepped into the world of paranormal publishing with her debut young-adult novel Amateur Angel, released May 1 by Comfort Publishing.
Karri Thompson grew up in Santee, a graduate of , Grossmont High School, and San Diego State University, and she's come full circle teaching students at Santana.

"I started writing fiction shortly after the when I was still coping with that horrible tragedy," said Thompson.
"Writing gives me solace and takes me to new places and interesting worlds that I create, and the concepts in Amateur Angel are especially comforting, since it’s based on the idea that everyone has a guardian angel," she said.

The book is described as a "fun and exciting story of an angel who gets to watch over a teen-idol rock star." The publisher said that in a genre currently flooded with vampire books- this should provide a breath of fresh air.
"The years it took to get published were filled with a lot of hard work and many disappointments along the way, but I never gave up, and I finally reached my goal," said Thompson.
The novel also addresses the issue of suicide, a timely topic, considering the .
There is a book signing planned at Warwick's in La Jolla, June 9 from 12-2pm. The book is also available at Barnesandnoble.com, Amazon.com, and at the Santee .
