Contest to Encourage Students to Say “Thank You” to Their Teachers

Press Release:

It’s Thanksgiving season, the perfect time to thank a teacher for all of the special things they do in their mission to educate our local students and future generations. Mission Federal Credit Union and Junior Achievement have partnered to present the “I’m Thankful for My Teacher” campaign. The campaign is designed to give parents and children an opportunity to thank the teachers in their lives for their hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, support and willingness to go the extra mile for students and families throughout San Diego County.

Over the past three years, the campaign has generated more than 17,000 student post cards of thanks to thousands of teachers  at hundreds of local schools. The campaign, now in its fourth year, has also garnered two prestigious national and international awards from the Credit Union National Association for top community campaign, and a global Entrepreneurial Spirit award from the MetLife Foundation, which encourages implementation of the thank-you campaign in conjunction with Junior Achievement chapters throughout the United States and globally.

“We've made it very easy for students and parents to participate and share their well-wishes and gratitude for teachers who are making a positive difference in their lives This year, we’ve even added a new, green component where parents and students can write and submit their post card online,” said Tricia Link, vice president of community relations and external affairs, Mission Federal Credit Union. “In turn, we hope this effort will increase morale of teachers and education professionals who have been affected by budget cuts and unemployment worries for some time now.”

To participate, the public is encouraged to stop by any Mission Federal Credit Union branch between October 17 and November 30, 2011, to pick-up, fill out and drop-off a thank-you note that prompts parents and kids to fill out “why they are thankful for their teacher.” Or students can log onto wwwmissionfed.com/im-thankful and send a virtual note.

The contest is open to children in kindergarten through grade 12, who attend any public, private, or home school, located within the borders of San Diego County. At the end of the campaign, Junior Achievement staff and volunteers will tally the results and deliver all thank-you notes to teachers throughout the San Diego region, for additional recognition for our teachers.

The top six winning elementary, middle, and high school teachers receiving the most thank-you notes will receive a $150 Visa gift card to reward themselves for all of their hard work. To boost participation, the students in the class of the winning teachers will receive a fun classroom party or fieldtrip of their choice and the invaluable gift of Junior Achievement’s award-winning financial education curriculum taught in their classroom for an entire school year, compliments of Mission Federal Credit Union. Mission Fed will also reward the top schools turning in the most thank-you notes with $200 School Spirit Awards; and special Outstanding Teacher Dedication Awards prizes are planned for ten additional deserving teachers. All winning teachers and schools will be notified the week of February 17, 2012.

That section is Cal-Trans and they run that intersection. Also the area next to the intersectionRead More where a runaway feature could be installed, belongs to the City of San Diego not Santee. Santee has asked for various mitigations and Cal-Trans has only responded with more "rumble strips". Very frustrating to everybody in Santee Sluggo including this Mayor.

I think the communities, Santee here, should band together and raise that money for schoolRead More supplies, instead of the teachers. I for one would throw in the first $100. I think between the residents and the local businesses we could raise the $10,000 to $15,000 that I am guessing would be needed. In Scripps Ranch, where both my kids attended school, the parents banded together and covered a HALF A MILLION shortfall in no time about 9 years ago during the cuts. And you don't have to have kids in school now to contribute. I don't anymore,BUT GOOD PUBLIC education with the right tools BENEFITS ALL AND THE FUTURE OF AMERICA MOST OF ALL. So I am first.

this is why the battlefield has changed temporarily from the political arena to the Energy Arena.Read More Co Gen Tricks and the usual suspects are making their big money bet on two inevitable facts that will force the hand of the CPUC and CEC to place a new gas power plant somewhere in the area. 1) the Electric Vehicle Mandate. 2) voltage support (power factor) needed by the industrial wind and solar farms in the desert. There is more to what meets the eye with the aggressive push by the usual suspects to cover our open spaces in the East County with these poorly sited RE projects. More wind and solar farms means more gas power plants. There is only one way to fight the destruction of our open spaces, and that is with roof top solar, conservation, energy efficiency and community owned energy districts. The fisrt thing that needs to be done is the City of Santee exempt residential scale PV installs from needing a building permit. Australia, Germany and the State of Vermont do not require a Building Permit to install PV.
