Friends of Santee’s River Park worked with a group of six military volunteers from NMCSD OASIS, the Naval Medical Center San Diego and the submarine base at Point Loma, in a clean-up of the area Friday morning.
More than have been removed by the along the since 2008, according to the City of Santee.
The Friends of Santee's River Park is a part of the San Diego River Park Foundation, which recently was selected as the 2011 Take Pride in America National Award winner and was recognized at a ceremony at the White House in July.
“We are deeply moved by this national recognition of our San Diego-based organization. It is a testimony to the great efforts of thousands of volunteers to change the future of our historic San Diego River,” said Rob Hutsel, the organization’s executive director and one of its founders.
The River Park Foundation is a non-profit community-based organization with a membership to more than 3000 people that volunteer over 20,000 hours in cleaning up and preserving the 52 miles of the San Diego River.
