KMA Architecture Unveils New Office NTC at Liberty Station

KMA Architecture has relocated to Barracks 17 at NTC at Liberty Station. The firm, regarded for its award-winning work on landmark projects including One America Plaza, ResMed and Parkloft, is positioning for expansion in a new creative work environment.

“We have represented our core values in every possible aspect of this new space,” said Don Blair, president and CEO.  “The design aligns with KMA’s passion for design and goal of providing value for our clients. We are focused on creating an environment in which ideas can be shared and solutions determined in an open forum.”

KMA’s team conceived the space for collaboration, communication, enduring design and value. The new office layout is team-focused and non-hierarchical in a way not utilized in the previous office which they had occupied for more than 30 years. The open plan will foster a greater collaborative environment and open up more communication among the team as well as visiting clients and project partners.

“The design blends the historic, cultural and modern elements of Liberty Station to create a space that is extremely functional as well as inspiring,” said partner Tim Rubesh. “Our staff collaborated on the design and worked with a great team of consultants who helped make it all come together.”

The 4,000 square foot space is on the second floor of Barracks 17, one of several buildings in the Promenade District within NTC at Liberty Station. The building has inherent sustainability features including large operable windows all along the major exterior walls which will provide natural light and ventilation. Each team member has similar styled work spaces, with no physical barriers or division. There will also be areas for formal and informal meetings and the entire space will be accented with lighting fixtures and other décor inspired by Liberty Station’s history.

“KMA’s image and brand embodies honesty and transparency,” said project architect Rich Guerena, who was recently promoted to senior associate. “For several years, we have been working towards an open, collaborative practice. We are breaking down barriers within our own team, with our colleagues and with our clients. Liberty Station is the perfect setting to focus on value, trust, and better buildings. It’s also completely appropriate that we are located in a historic building, as we balance KMA’s 40 plus year resume with an energetic team of mostly young professionals.”
