Snow Fest: Frosty Fun in Aliso Viejo

Rain-delayed by one week, the annual event turned the Grand Park at Aliso Viejo's Town Center into a white wonderland.

Crisp white snow covers a green hill. Children and their parents are decked out in snow pants, beanies and waterproof boots. Sleds race down the icy hill.

Is it a scene straight from Big Bear mountain?

Nope. The rescheduled annual Snow Fest in Aliso Viejo went off Saturday after January weekend rains turned the festival organizers' original plans into slush

Families, friends and Town Center employees on their lunch break headed out to Snow Fest to partake in activities such as a snow-filled playpen where toddlers built miniature snowmen, a kiddie hill where little ones rode sleds, and a steeper, longer sled course for teens and adults. Around lunchtime, a hula-hoop contest began and lasted for three-and-a-half songs until two 6-year-olds were crowned champions.

Local businesses also participated in Saturday's festival by selling their goods and donating their proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley. In order to participate in the wintry activities it cost a cool $5 for a sled full of fun.
