• Friday at noon, hundreds of union janitors and supporters will march through downtown San Diego to draw attention to the impact of inequality on both working class and middle class families. As part this statewide action, the janitors’ union, SEIU United Service Workers West (USWW), released a study which estimates that the top 1%, through its economic power, has effectively lessened the incomes in 2010 of middle class families by $9,200 and working families by $10,200.

• The guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson is scheduled to depart today for a six-month deployment to the western Pacific Ocean and Middle East.

The vessel, with around 380 officers and enlisted sailors, previously deployed to the area in 2009-10, according to the Navy.

"Sampson's crew has worked extremely hard in preparation for this deployment," said Cmdr. Chris Alexander, the Sampson's commanding officer. "We are trained and prepared to execute any mission assigned."
