Budget Cuts Update for Santee City Rec Programs

As February approaches, the deadline for through cuts to city staff and programs looms near. With discussion of cuts to , Santee City Manager Keith Till recently clarified where those programs stand this spring:

"The recreation program brochure had already been published and distributed, so programs for the upcoming quarter will be conducted as noticed. Beyond that, the Recreation Division has been presented an opportunity to re-work its programming model. To the extent programs can be operated within the constraints of a significantly tightened budget, they will have the opportunity to continue."

NFL Coming to Santee

The NFL is coming to Santee Monday to tackle childhood obesity. Students at are set to begin the NFL Play 60 Challenge later this morning. The four-week program educates youth about the importance of staying fit and encourages kids to engage in physical activity for at least 60 minutes per day.

El Cajon Fire

Four people were displaced Monday by a fire at their home in El Cajon, and a firefighter suffered  burn injury.

The fire in the 600 block of Jefferson Avenue was reported at 2:48 a.m., said a Heartland fire dispatcher. Two adults and two children were displaced, she said.

A firefighter was treated at the scene for a burn injury, Fox 5 reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
