San Diego Natural History Museum Invites Visitors to Honor the 100th Anniversary of Titanic on Saturday, April 14

In commemoration of the Titanic’s 100th anniversary, the San Diego Natural History Museum will host a myriad of special activities and demonstrations April 14, 2012. The museum will extend its hours and allow visitors to stay in the exhibition until 3 a.m. Sunday, April 15, spanning the time Titanic sunk 100 years ago.

The volunteers of the USS Midway Museum Radio Room have built a replica wireless radio, similar to the one used on Titanic, and will be giving demonstrations of the radio as well as explaining how the distress calls were made that fateful night. The volunteer radio operators will also be using modern equipment to communicate with a ship that will be positioned directly over Titanic’s wreck site. This ship will be communicating with wireless radio operators all over the world in honor of the 100th anniversary.

Actors dressed in period clothing and portraying passengers and crew aboard Titanic will be perusing the exhibition and museum, interacting with visitors and sharing Titanic stories.
