Farmers Market Fresh: Pink Naval Oranges and Heirlooms

This week's fresh buys at the market include an interesting piece of citrus cultivation and the ever delicious heirloom tomatoes are looking great again!

There were two pieces of produce that caught my eye at the this week.

I had never heard of a pink navel orange until I was given a sample and instantly hooked! This hybrid fruit has layers of flavor and is bursting with a pinkish-red juice. The pink navel is a cross between a blood orange and a navel orange. The taste of the blood orange is quite apparent, but milder than the real thing. It is a tasty, beautiful piece of citrus and perfectly pink just in time for Valentine's Day.

Pink navel oranges are from and were picked just yesterday.  You can get a bag of about six good-sized fruit for $5 or two bags for $9.

The next farmers fresh featured item this week are the big beautiful blushing heirloom tomatoes. The tomatoes come in a variety of colors, red and pink shades are in abundance this week, another pretty Valentine's surprise. They almost resemble little hearts and are looking especially plump this week!

These beauties were picked yesterday and come from . They go for $3.50 per pound.
