Santee is a family town that takes its holidays seriously, especially during Halloween. On October 31st kids and parents take to the streets for some tricks and treats, and everyone's always on guard for a good scare.
The "Starlight Circle" area of town (Tomel Court, off Magnolia Ave, near Santana High) is always bustling on Halloween night with blocks of decorated homes and homeowners hanging out in their front yards with candy for the many masked kids who walk past. Last year seemed like a block party- there was even a DJ hosting a dance party for the kids in a driveway.
I have heard about a couple haunted houses on Pebble Beach Drive this Halloween, including one with its own Facebook page- Santee Fright Night at 9835 Pebble Beach Dr. They've been scaring trick-or-treaters since 2007 and this year's haunted house is the biggest yet, with several different frightening rooms.
"We have put more than a month of work into making sure this years Haunted house is as big and scary as possible," said Zach Pierce, who helped put together Santee Fright Night.
An event to check out if you want a safer way to get some treats for your younger ghouls is Trunk or Treat at Pathways Church. The Santee Farmers Market is also in full swing on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. and vendors there will be handing out treats for the kids!
