ICYMI: $5K Purse Stolen, Surfing Sensation, and Child Victimized

A weekly roundup of top stories from our Patch sites in San Diego County.

In case you missed it, here's a look at some of the best stories in the county this week, Sept. 15-21:

La Jolla Patch

Authorities believe a 49-year-old biotech executive suspected of shooting two men was looking for revenge when he allegedly opened fire on a former boss and his ex-wife's brother in separate attacks early Wednesday morning. The suspect, Hans Peterson, is going through a contentious divorce for which he appears to blame his victims. Both of the wounded men are recovering from their injuries.

Coronado Patch

Coronado has the lowest crime rate of any part of San Diego County, SANDAG reported Thursday. But while violent crime is almost non-existent in the city, property crimes increased. Just this week, a Louis Vuitton handbag valued at $5,000 was stolen from a car a thief broken into on Strand Way. Also lost in the purse were a $900 wallet and a $10,000 diamond tennis bracelet.

Carlsbad Patch

With a name like Jett Rocket Prefontaine you've just got to be awesome. Even if you're only 4 1/2-years-old. Check out theCarlsbad surfing sensation, and find him on Instagram at jrocket1017.

Ramona Patch

Authorities released the names of the 73 suspects arrested in Operation Mountain Shadow, along with the charges they are facing. The year-long investigation culminated Sept. 10 with dozens of law enforcement carrying out warrants around town and the seizure of many weapons and drugs valued at $2.1 million in Poway and Ramona.

Imperial Beach Patch

Flowers and candles are being placed at a site where a 24-year-old woman died by suicide last week. Family and friends are mourning the loss of Marilyn "Losa" Lutau.

In the wake of her death, we'd like to remind everyone that suicide prevention resources are available online at up2sd.org and the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council website.

Rancho Bernardo-4S Ranch Patch

A teenager was arrested Friday after allegedly making a bomb threat against Mount Carmel High School. The 15-year-old is a student at the school. Authorities say menacing statement was made earlier in the week via a written message on a boy's restroom stall door, claiming that an explosion would occur during fifth-period classes Friday afternoon. The juvenile was charged with making a criminal threat.

Poway Patch

Authorities say an 11-year-old girl was the victim of lewd comments and sexual gestures made to her by a man as she walked home from school Thursday. The Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident, which took place about 3:20 p.m. on Tierra Bonita Drive. The suspect is described as a 35- to 40-year-old white man who is about 5-foot-9-inches tall, with a medium build and short, straight brown hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department's non-emergency line at 858-565-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 to remain anonymous.
