'Love Your Water' Photo Contest Highlights Local Connections to Water

Win a hotel stay at the Gaslamp by entering the San Diego County Water Authority contest.

The San Diego County Water Authority on Thursday will begin a five-week smartphone photo campaign designed to underscore the connections people have with water.

Participants 18 years of age and older in the "Love Your Water" campaign can share a smartphone photo showing the water they love or a way they love water. The photos must be shot on a phone and sent from the phone to sdcwa@sdcwa.org, and they will be posted on the Water Authority's Facebook page, according to the authority.

"We are all attracted to water, whether it's swimming in a high Sierra lake or admiring a fountain at Balboa Park," Jason Foster, the Water Authority's director of public outreach and conservation, said. "This contest provides a creative way for people to show how much they value water."

The campaign was set to run from Valentine's Day through World Water Day on March 22. Participants will be eligible to win one of two one-night stays for two at the 306-room San Diego Marriott Gaslamp, according to the SDCWA.

Qualifying photos will be posted on the Water Authority's Facebook page and viewers can vote for their favorites with the "like" button. Likes will determine one winner and the other will be selected by Water Authority staffers based on the photo's creativity, composition and how it connected to the theme, officials said.

Five runners-up will each receive four passes to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and the first 50 to send in a photo will get a shower timer, officials said.

The winners will be announced on Facebook March 22.
