Photos: Patch Hosted Mission Trails Nature Walk

A great hike was had with readers and three trail guides along the river and through the grasslands of Mission Trails.

I had the chance to take a wonderful walk through Mission Trails Regional Park with readers of Santee Patch and three knowledgeable trail guides last week.

The hike began at the Kumeyaay Lake Campground, where we passed by water fowl and many other birds. It continued along the river, with trail guides identifying native and invasive plants, the behavior of insects and they even dropped some information about bats. The hike emerged from the river into the grasslands, where signs of coyote and deer could be seen. The walk ended at the Padre Dam with a bit of a history lesson about the interaction between natives and the Mission.

See the photo gallery for a bit of a look at what we saw on the trail.

The hike went so well that we'll surely be doing similar partnerships with Mission Trails in the near future. Keep an eye out on the sight for invitations to future activities.
