Most everyone I encountered at Wednesday's market, vendors and shoppers, thought the new venue for the Santee Farmers Market is an improvement from the old location on the east end of Mission Gorge Road. The market can now be found in one corner of the Pathways Church parking lot at the corner of Carlton Hills and Mast Boulevards on Wednesdays from 3-7 p.m.
I prefer the boxed configuration of the new location compared to the spread out, meandering format of old. It seems to provide more interaction with different booths and other shoppers and gives the feeling that the market is more lively.
There were a number of eye-catching vendors Wednesday, including Poppa's Fresh Fish Company (can you say oyster happy hour!), Jamaican Jerk Hut, Sage Mountain Farm (some of the best looking produce), and the strawberries are in season!
Market Manager Andrea Hankins said she's happy with the new location, though she will miss the old spot where the market began.
There's plenty of parking and it's now much easier to get in and out of the market. Overall this change is a refreshing new start for the Santee Farmers Market.
