San Diego County residents looking to beat the summer heat are invited to go to one of 100 designated Cool Zone locations throughout the region, with four in the Santee and Lakeside areas.
The county-sponsored Cool Zones program directs residents, especially seniors, the low-income and the disabled, to go to public facilities that have air conditioners running on extremely hot days.
Residents can find the sites by looking for window signs with a light blue logo featuring a polar bear. Typical sites are libraries, recreation centers and senior centers.
Low-income, homebound seniors and disabled persons can request a free electric fan if they are unable to go to Cool Zone site. The program also offers bus passes to qualified individuals in certain zip codes to help them get to designated Cool Zones.
The annual Cool Zones program runs through October 15.
