Santee Secrets: Free Trips to the Dump for Santee Residents

106 Santee citizens used free passes to dump trash in the Sycamore Canyon Landfill in May.

Written by Mayor Randy Voepel

In the final agreement with Republic Disposal (Sycamore Canyon Landfill, 8514 Mast Blvd.) your City Council put into the agreement, a provision that may be the only one for regular citizens in the State of California. Every calendar year, EVERY household in Santee is allowed two household "dump" runs to the Landfill free of charge.

That saves anyone that participates about $100 a year.

Of course there are some if's and's and but's, but essentially you get two free rides a year. In my neighborhood we coordinate the dump runs between households so we have a chance to pile into my trailer 6-8 times a year, although the pass holder must accompany the driver (me).

In a nutshell, all you have to do is go to the landfill during normal business hours, show your Drivers License (they take other types of I.D.) and get your two passes.

The City Council negotiated a very fair deal with the Landfill to mitigate the negative impacts to Santee but the Council also wanted a benefit for each individual, to make up for affecting everyone.

By the way, this is catching on as 106 Santee citizens used the dump passes in May.

So let's all take a free dump!
