Star-Studded Party in Santee This Weekend

Mission Trails Regional Park is showing you the stars.

Are you fascinated with stars, planets and all-things celestial? Mission Trails Regional Park is the place to be this weekend.

On Saturday, the park will hold a “” for those curious about the heavenly happenings. George Varga, a trail guide at and a resident star-gazer, will show you off some star spectacles in the sky.

A telescope will be set up for those wishing to view the stars. Varga will show you the moon, which will be two days past being full, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) along with its companion, M32 and Jupiter, which will be well in view in the southeastern sky.

Varga will teach you about the Andromeda Galaxy and give you tidbits, like the fact that the light from M32 takes anywhere from 2.5-2.0 million years to reach Earth.

Interested in a star-studded party right here in Santee? Visit the park at the far end of the Kumeyaay Campground's Day Use Parking Lot. For best viewing results, please don't bring lanterns or white-light flashlights near the telescope. This star-gazing event is on Saturday from 5-8 p.m.
