Vigil Held for Man Struck and Killed By Truck at Santee Crosswalk

The family of Stevie Eastman is "outraged" that no charges have been filed after he was struck and killed while walking with a green light.

A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday evening in Santee to remember a man who was struck and killed by a truck Friday afternoon while he was walking across a crosswalk at the corner of Mission Gorge Road at Cottonwood Avenue.

10News reports that the family of the man gave them video of the accident, which shows Stevie Eastman, 24, crossing with a green light and being hit by a concrete truck turning east onto Mission Gorge Road. The family told 10News they're outraged that no charges have been filed in the incident. Sheriff's Department said they are doing a longterm investigation and have two senior detectives on the case.

The sheriff's department says they have two of their senior detectives working the case. They say they are sensitive to the family's grief but they are doing their job and they say this will be a long-term investigation on the accident.

The video is from security footage at Ferny's Taco Shop on Mission Gorge Road. The family had to search the video out themselves and told 10News that the Sheriff's Department said the driver of the truck is likely still driving. U-T San Diego reports that the Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident, but it could take months to com to a conclusion about the accident or make any charges.

Eastman was on his lunch break from his workplace, Scantibodies, a medical laboratory in Santee. He was a resident of El Cajon. His family said he always had a smile on his face and liked to play sports.

The vigil was held at the corner where the accident occurred and about 100 people gathered.
