“They also help in local situations, like the fires we had a few year ago,” Sappington said.

According to Convoy of Hope’s website, the organization is considered a “first responder” in disaster relief. With a fleet of tractor-trailers, a 300,000-square-foot warehouse, a Ham Radio Network, and a high-tech Mobile Command Center, its volunteers go to places from Haiti to United States, such as the recent flood crisis in Missouri. The organization utilizes a points of distribution model, making it an active and efficient disaster relief organization.

That’s the serious part of the evening on May 20. The fun part will be all the music.

According to Dani Womack, the associate pastor of Crosspointe Church, the whole is to really be able to give back to our community.

“The idea of benefiting Japan felt so right,” said Womack, who had been the one to first vocalize the idea.

Locally well-known singer and songwriter Trevor Davis will headline the event. Sappington is confident that a hundred people will show up on the night of May 20. With the ten-dollar donation, that would bring the total to $1,000 to give to Convoy of Hope.

Tickets may be purchased at Friendly Grounds Coffeehouse.  Sappington assures that “if you walk in the night of the 20th, you can buy a ticket then.”
