New Murals at Mast Park Encourage Pedestrian Access

A series of six new murals lively up what can be an intimidating pedestrian access route.

Six new murals meant to encourage pedestrian use of the path connecting the parking lots with the new were being finalized on Monday.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, Boy Scout Troop 51 , under the guidance of a professional artist, Thom Guerra, and along with other scouts and volunteers, helped paint a mural under the Carlton Hills Boulevard bridge at Mast Park.

The City of Santee put out a call on their Facebook page the week before, "for anyone who is or just likes to paint, dids and adults alike!" and enough help was on hand.

Monday, work crews were applying material to make the walls more resistant and easier to clean when needed- an encouraging step in an area that is prone to graffiti.

According to the city, "this is among a number of steps taken to  for public use and enjoyment."

The city says the next step, soon to come, is putting up signs making the linkage between Mast Park and the new trail section more clear.

Santee Patch was there to see the mural being painted over the weekend, check back in a day or two for the story and more photos, and check out Jay Renard's shots from the day at his Flickr account.
