Santana High Music Memories Video: '94-'95

Video memories of a year of Santana High School Band, more than 15 years ago.

A few weeks ago we kicked off a new piece called Santee Tube- a collection of the most interesting videos on the Internet concerning Santee.

Today's video comes from Youtube user mikefromsantee. He digitized his more than 15 year-old VHS tape roundup of the 1994-95 Music Department season. It's 45 minutes of the Royal Regiment , choir, drumline and other high school music events.

Did you play music at Santana during those years? Try and spot yourself!

"This is video from my high school years. In 1993, a man by the name of Gary McPherson took the job of music director at a school that had no more than 6 band students. I received a letter from "Mr. Mac" prior to my sophomore year. He was looking for musicians for the band. I played piano from 1st-5th grade, and trumpet during 8th grade. But I had only played alto saxophone the summer after I graduated from junior high and the sax sat in the closet after that. I joined as a beginning saxophonist... but after only 2 weeks I ended up becoming the first member of the "varsity band" to play an instrument in the alto range. I became SHS's 1st chair alto saxophonist.

"This video was presented to the Music Dept. at the end of the '94-'95 school year (my junior year). It marked the beginning of the revival of Santana's music program. I was even less outgoing then than I am now, so my appearances in this video are quite slim. But it's not hard to find me in the video due to the large glasses I wore at the time."
