Santee Power Plant Protesters March on Mission Gorge

Locals of all ages turned out to show opposition to the proposed Quail Brush Power Plant that would be built on the border of Santee.

About 70 protesters of all ages, from the stroller to the cane, in Santee for a few hours on Saturday, letting the city know that they oppose the construction of a power plant in the hills just north of town.

The rally was organized by "Stop the Santee Power Plant," the grassroots organization that has sprung up in opposition to the Quail Brush Power Plant plans. The group has shown up at recent vociferously denouncing the plans for a plant, and this was their .

The protesters wore orange clothing to draw attention and held signs that said things like "Protect Santee and Mission Trails" and "I want clean air."

Car, truck and even trolley honks of approval followed the crowd down Mission Gorge as they temporarily occupied the corners at the intersections at Cuyamaca and Carlton Hills Blvd.

One protester with a megaphone spoke to passers-by about the plans for the plant and potential affects on Santee, like lower property values, noise polution, and air pollution.

The protesters are in good company, , in large part because of the disruption it would cause to the city's panoramic natural landscapes.
