October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. Check out the list below of opportunities to go pink in San Diego and beyond:
Susan G. Komen for the Cure of San Diego will host "Bras Aross the Bay" on Saturday, Oct. 6. The event, which kicks off at 6 p.m., asks guests to wear their "most fabulous pink outfit" and hop on board a Flagship yacht for an evening of good music, food and pink cocktails. $35 tickets can be purchased here.
The Santee Chili's is hosting a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure all day October 3. Chili's will donate 15% of your total bill in behalf of our own Santee team-"Pink Tutus for Tatas" to help meet their fundraising goal for the 2012 3-Day.
The "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer—Day of Fashion" will take place at the Marriott San Diego in Old Town on Saturday, Oct. 13. The event will include fashion shows, booths, auctions and raffle drawings. Tickets for the all day event can be purchased here.
Join the biggest Zumba party of the year on Saturday, Oct. 27. Three Zumba instructors will host the "Party in Pink 2-hour Zumbathon" in support of the cause. The event will take place in San Diego. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.
Warwick's in La Jolla will host Laura Roppe, author of Rocking the Pink: Finding Myself on the Other Side of Cancer at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. Roppe, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, tells the story of kicking "cancer's butt" in her inspirational book that made its debut this year.
The annual Debbie Berton Walk—in honor of a San Diego woman who passed away from breast cancer—will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Lake Murray. The event includes a 1.5-mile walk, food and opportunity drawings. Find more information here.
The 2012 Komen San Diego Race for the Cure will take place in Balboa Park on Sunday, Nov. 4. Those interested in the race can register here.
There are even more ways to spread breast cancer awareness this month by supporting national organizations that are fighting for a cure.
Research centers like Susan G. Komen for the Cure are selling pink ribbon merchandise and it’s a twofer—retail therapy and donating to a cause that affects millions.
You can also support breast cancer research by affixing a special stamp to your mail. The U.S. Postal Service has been selling a stamp commemorating breast cancer awareness for the past 15 years. The agency has raised $75 million so far for research programs at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is organized nationwide and so far more than 8 million people have walked for this cause and raised about $460 million.
And you can join people from four continents in a Race for the Cure event organized by Susan G. Komen For The Cure, or an Avon Walk For Breast Cancer event organized by the Avon Foundation for Women.
