New Restaurant Coming to Carlsbad, Catch Closed

Catch apparently didn't catch on...the seafood restaurant in the village now shows signs of a new restaurant coming to town.

Updated 2/11/13 1:30 p.m.

A sign reading 38 Degrees can be seen where Catch used to be at 660 Carlsbad Village Drive. It appears a renovation is underway.

Carlsbad Patch has confirmed that this is NOT associated with 38 Degree Ale House and Grill in Alhambra, CA.

Carlsbad Patch will have more information on this new business as it becomes available.

Will you miss Catch? Are you excited for a new restaurant to come to the village? Tell us in comments.

These people first named their first restaurant in Carlsbad (now Paon) Per Se, until they got a similar love letter from Thomas Keller in New York about using the name of his world famous restaurant. Next, they take the name "Catch" from a seafood restaurant in Santa Monica and place it on their now defunct seafood restaurant in Carlsbad. You can bet their hopeful use of the name 38 Degrees was of like ingenuity, down to the logo.

The restaurant obviously spent a bit of change to have the clean cut bright orange 3-D 38-degree sign built and installed on their building. Then there was all of the ruckus about name-stealing and such. Just yesterday I drove by and saw the place is now 83-degrees! HAHAHAHA! Love it. Haveta go in there and see what it's like.

Catch was horrible. How you mess up sushi I will never figure out, especially with the prices they were charging. They couldn't use 38 degrees so they just switched it to 83 degrees? I'll wait for the next restaurant that takes this location which hopefully won't be affiliated with the same people.

“Yes, I have changed the name to 83 Degrees Carlsbad. The guy in Alhambra has made such a big deal about this, I just don’t want to deal with this any further. We are so far away from each-other, I’m still not understanding what the big deal is. I am going to use this publicity that he has given me, and continue to launch, but as 83 Degrees rather than 38 Degrees. ” The owner sounds like an ass... Can't wait for this place to close.

Hey, Bob....maybe you can change it, yet again, to 38 degrees 9' N or 117degrees 21' W...that's where Carlsbad is
