Your vote can help the rank as one of America’s Favorite Farmer’s Markets in a contest going on right now put on by the American Farmland Trust.

You can vote directly for the Santee Farmers Market by clicking here, or search for another market here. The contest ends September 3.

American Farmland Trust is a national conservation organization dedicated to preserving America’s farm and ranch land. They are putting on the contest to raise awareness of local farmers markets and to help save local farms that might be in the path of development.

When you vote it asks- "Please tell us why your market should be one of America's Favorite Farmers Markets." Here's what I said:

Santee Farmers Market has the freshest around, the juiciest raisins possible, finely made and soups, the , jams covered with blue ribbons by , exotic fruits ranging from to , and a dedicated Market Manager that keeps interesting vendors coming through. This market is a bright spot of culture in town, and proof that a farmers market can proliferate anywhere, as long as residents want it.

After voting you will be taken to a page asking for a donation to the American Farmland Trust, but it is not necessary to make a donation in order for your vote to count.

You can vote for each market only one time, but you can vote for as many markets as you want.

In concert with America's Favorite Farmers Markets contest, farmers can submit an essay to win the Farmers Market Inspiration Award. A $1,000 prize will be awarded to a farmer showing the greatest dedication to his/her market.

I'm sorry to say that of all the SD Farmer's Markets, Santee's is the smallest & most boring. I'd rather go to the UTC, Adams Ave, La Mesa, or Leucadia markets, all of which offer a lot of wonderful, diverse products. Yes, the Santee market has great produce, but why can't we get the same great food vendors that the other markets have. I've heard the market manager is at fault for this. If that's true, then Santee's market will continue to take a backseat to all the other markets, and that's a real shame.
