Bites Nearby: Oggi’s Pizza and Brewing Co.

The Southern California sports bar and brewery has one of 20 spots in the heart of Santee.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Santee Patch picks a great restaurant, either in town or nearby, that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Overview: A local sports bar and brewery chain in southern California and Arizona. The extensive menu is American food with something for everyone, from salads to burgers, pizzas to calzones. The food is fresh, with scratch dressings, soups and pizza dough made fresh daily. "Oggi's is proud to be the official pizza of the Chargers."

Decor: The large outdoor patio is beautiful with dozens of tables and heat-lamps for the winter. Inside there are large plasma TVs and jerseys on the wall.  A large wrap-around bar with at least 20 stools stands in the middle of the dining area.  Lots of comfy booths and tables make it easy to seat the whole family or team. There is an arcade game room in the back so bring quarters.

Entrees and Sides: The menu is too long to represent here, though their signature seems to be the pizzas and calzones because they take up almost half of the menu. We ordered a feta and shrimp salad, beef sliders with fries and an Italian calzone with salami, pepperoni, several cheese and sauce on the side (how they serve it).

The salad was large, though it was a half order, but the shrimp were sadly much smaller than the picture. The house-made honey-mustard dressing was delicious. The burgers were standard fare, the fries crispy and well-seasoned. The calzone was bursting with meat and cheesy goodness, with soft and flavorful dough that tasted very fresh (made in house daily according to the menu).

Service: Friendly, reasonably timely, we felt comfortable and well taken care of.  They offer a shorter to-go menu, check out their website to call and order for pick-up.

Signature Dish: Their award-winning beers, cold and fresh flowing from the tap every day... and pizza of course.

is located at: 9828 Mission Gorge Road

Anyone else recommend a Santee family owned business that's outside the city?

Where do you type what you want to view, like "Quail Brush"?

No drop down menus, just click the header links for more options. For story categories click newsRead More and look on the left hand column. I know the redesign will take a bit to get used to, but I really think it will be a better site for community engagement, and easier to use. Feel free to post your feedback to the redesign on the boards, I'll check it out and respond, but you might also send your feedback straight to Patch headquarters with this form- http://feedback.aol.com/rs/rs.php?sid=patch Engineers will be furiously tweeking the new site based on your suggestions.

The new format from my iPad is very boring. Where are the drop down menus?

this is why the battlefield has changed temporarily from the political arena to the Energy Arena.Read More Co Gen Tricks and the usual suspects are making their big money bet on two inevitable facts that will force the hand of the CPUC and CEC to place a new gas power plant somewhere in the area. 1) the Electric Vehicle Mandate. 2) voltage support (power factor) needed by the industrial wind and solar farms in the desert. There is more to what meets the eye with the aggressive push by the usual suspects to cover our open spaces in the East County with these poorly sited RE projects. More wind and solar farms means more gas power plants. There is only one way to fight the destruction of our open spaces, and that is with roof top solar, conservation, energy efficiency and community owned energy districts. The fisrt thing that needs to be done is the City of Santee exempt residential scale PV installs from needing a building permit. Australia, Germany and the State of Vermont do not require a Building Permit to install PV.
