Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar Coming to Santee

It looks like something Santee is missing, a wing-centric restaurant, will soon be gracing our town.

Rumors have been flying about a notice on the old Hollywood Video building, at 294 Town Center Pkwy., indicating that Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar will be moving in. We can confirm that, indeed a "Public Notice of Application to Sell Alcoholic Beverages" was put up on March 1, bearing the restaurant's name.

Santee Patch has contacted Buffalo Bill Wings corporate headquarters, and is awaiting response. We'll update soon with an idea of when the wings will be available and a better idea of what you can expect from the restaurant.

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar is a subsidiary of Blazin Wings Inc., and is one of the fastest growing restaurant chains in the U.S., opening 36 sites in the last six months, according to their website. This would be the only member of the chain in San Diego County.

They describe the restaurant as a "New York style wing joint with 14 signature sauces."

They are not simply a "wing joint," but also a full menu sports bar with burgers, salada, appetizers, TVs, a juke box, and apparently a relaxed atmosphere.

This is an interesting development, considering about Landre's Sports Bar & Grill coming into the , which is just down the road.

I've had Antonelli's & it is delicious, but there is just something about a Jersey Mike's sub...not for thing like turkey or roast beef but the subs that have the Italian meats & the philly steaks are OMG! At least at the locations in AZ . I think part of the problems with the locations here is,I never saw a Manager present...always saw them in AZ except, sometimes late in the evening. Speaking of evening...isn't Antonelli's only open in the daytime? I've never been there other than lunch time. Sometimes, we like to do sandwiches after an evening meeting or such. Now you made me want a sandwich from Antonelli's!

Yes only open till 4:00 and closed on Sunday's. I have gotten in the habit of calling ahead so we don't have to wait. Now I'm gonna have to give Jersey Mikes a try just to compare. You have peaked my interest! I am a Italian sub fan so we'll have to see.
Ellen McGuire June 05, 2011 at 10:44 AM
Joe- I'm sure you'll love Jersey Mike's...try a #13 & get it "Mike's Way(lettuce, tomato, onion, oil, vinagar, herbs) delish! Just remember,I warned you about Mission Valley & Clairemont's "hygiene issues". You might want to try the one on Rosecrans near Phil's...I've never been to that one,but at least I don't know it has problems, either. They're open 7 days a week! Enjoy!

The Jersey Mike's in Clairemont is newly opened, and I agree, the weakest of the lot. We moved to Santee from Clairemont, so we actually went to the CM store opening weekend and were terribly disappointed. It was disorganized and the workers didn't really seem to know what was going on. The manager was present, but we were unimpressed. We tried it again a week later and had a similar result. My personal favorite location is Mira Mesa. They have it TOGETHER. Outstanding folks, fun atmosphere...good stuff. We also like the Pt. Loma location quite a bit. The owner of Pt. Loma and Clairemont is the same person. The owner of the Mira Mesa shop, I believe is looking to open one in La Jolla which would be great, because I work up there :) My husband turned me on to JM about a year and a half ago and I must say, I try to eat there as often as possible. the MM shop me so well that all I had to do was tell them my name when I called and they had my order (Regular #9 on wheat, just mayo, lettuce and LOTS of pickles). YUMMY GOODNESS! Has anyone tried Landres yet? Oh, for pizza...make the drive to Tierrasanta (52 west, get off at Santo Rd and go about a mile, turn LEFT on Tierrasanta Blvd, turn right @ the 1st light into the shopping center - McDonalds on the corner) and go to the right side of the center. GAETANO'S PIZZA is close to Starbucks. You will NOT regret it! Been eating pizza there since 1981

GracieLynne- Yes,I've tried Landre's & was happy both times I was there. We were at the pre-opening & I had a very tender steak with thyme & shallot mashed potatoes, that were to die for! My husband had the 5 cheese, mac & cheese he loved it! Our son had a burger which was a build your own type on that night & he was very pleased,as well. I had a mango mojito that was fantastic & they both had beers that they liked. We went again last Sunday & husband & I had the pulled pork sliders & they are amazing! Our son had the "Landre dog" & he loved it!It has chili fries with it & we were wowed by them. All & all we like Landre's a lot. I'm hoping for a few simpler dished down the road...you know a soup & salad combo, some more sliders, some paninis, ect. Landre's has a lot of really "higher end" dishes that look really delicious, but I haven't tried them, yet since we haven't been out for a "date night" lately.I've heard that they are supposed to be expanding the menu,so maybe my wish list will get answered! ;) I would say give it a try,I think you'll like it! Thanks for the tip about the Mira Mesa Jersey Mikes,I've been really wanting a #13 & I'm really spoiled by the location in Ahwatukee ( suburban Phoenix)! We'll have to try it!

Chilis and Oggis may be enough for you, but some of us like variety in where we can go for an adult beverage and a decent meal. We welcomed Landre's Sports Bar & Grill and enjoy stopping in there for a hearty (and healthy!) pint of ale after a bike tour around our lovely city and its parks and trails. (Did you know that having a beer is better for hydration than water or sports drinks after exercising?) Looks like soon we'll be able to snack on some delicious hot wings too! Sure beats driving or biking by a bunch of empty businesses with the littering of FOR LEASE signs on their windows. Oh and the last time I checked, if you don't like drinking alcohol, then by all means it is highly recommended that you avoid consuming it.

Antonelli's? I'm a bit of a sandwich snob. I didn't care for them. I asked for a fresh, warm roll. The lady behind the counter looked at me like I was asking for a free lunch. After explaining my preference she actually said it's just bread and it makes no difference. What??? Any sandwich buff will attest that the bread my very well be the most important part. Trolley stop deli, sandwich bags and hilltop deli get my business. Oh and a genuine Philly Cheesesteak does not have marinated meat like most "authentic" cheesesteak places here seem to think they do.
Ellen McGuire July 02, 2011 at 08:05 AM
Big Daddy, I've seen several complaints about service at Antonelli's on YELP...& let's face it,her comment about "it's just bread" is just bad service! If you asked for a fresh warm roll, she should have given it to you! As far as Philly Steaks go try Gaglione Bros. at Mission Gorge & Friars in the center with CoCo's across from Kaiser. Delicious sandwich & I saw the weighing meat portions & they were fresh, not marinated!

Hopefully buffalo wild wings does end up coming to santee. They have great food and great wings.

The trouble with so many failures in Santee was the accessibility from anywhere in the county except Santee! But with the 52 going through the middle of town now, it is easier to get there without having to deal with Mission Gorge traffic. Accessibility is what kept me from visiting the now defunct Panda Buffet more often and one of the reasons I let my Costco membership go. I ate at the Murrieta BWW place a few weeks ago an it was wonderful! Not pricey either. Make sure you try the mango-habanero wings. Scrumptious!

With Texas Roadhouse now vacant... Seems like that location would make a whole lot more sense for a new bar and grill. Besides, that Hollywood location seems like it would be a better spot if it were divided and sub leased. How about something like an independent pharmacy in there... Give us a choice other than all the big boxes. Santee hasnt had a family owned rx since price rite closed in the 90's. There are 2 dental offices and the scripps clinic in that parking lot... Makes sense to me.

Jimmy's has been open since 1977. That makes it 34 years established in Santee...
GracieLynne October 13, 2011 at 10:36 PM
It's mid October and I haven't seen a lot going on over there. Is this still going to happen? Dec 5 is less than 2 months away! Does anyone know anything? I agree with Byron that the Texas Roadhouse location would be PRIME and much better for BW's.
Ellen McGuire October 14, 2011 at 05:43 AM
GracieLynne & Byronrx & everyone else! Please, please, never confuse the Original Roadhouse, that closed in Santee with Texas Roadhouse, which has NEVER been located in Santee! They are NOT one in the same. The only similarity is the word "Roadhouse" & the peanut being served! The food & service are far superior at Texas Roadhouse! I agree that Buffalo Wild Wings needs to get a move on...we've been waiting long enough! I also have questioned if Hollywood Video was large enough, but I have to say,I would love to have Texas Roadhouse take over the old Roadhouse & hopefully BBW will either fit in it's current location choice (& finally open for business) or find another suitable space. I actually think that the old Roadhouse would be a little big for BBW compared to the one I have been to. On the Texas Roadhouse front,if you are not familiar with them,as I said above they are so much better than O.R. that I think everyone would be thrilled to have Texas added to our city. When we were living in the Phoenix suburbs we used to go to the Texas Roadhouse on Power Rd in Gilbert. They had a good bar, unbelievably delicious steaks ($9.99 for a very tender sirloin steak with 2 sides) & the best baked potatoes I truthfully have ever tasted! The service was always top notch, too.Currently, the closest one is in Yuma, but one is opening in Menifee in Dec. & if we can't get one in the old Roadhouse location...we'll be making a roadtrip to Menifee! Check them out @www.texasroadhouse.com.

I emailed BW3 today to get an update. This is their response. :) Hello! The Santee location is tentatively scheduled to open on 1.30.12! We look forward to seeing you there!
MrGoodBuddy October 27, 2011 at 01:08 PM
Wish BWW was being built in Santee...
MrGoodBuddy October 27, 2011 at 01:08 PM
Rather a better location.
Bob V. November 03, 2011 at 08:47 PM
I drove by this location today and the Liquor license application is gone from the front and there are For Lease signs all over the building again......Anybody else know anything about this ?
GracieLynne November 03, 2011 at 09:02 PM
I emailed them about a week ago and they told me that their tentative open date is in January, 2012. My best guess is that they are going to take the Roadhouse location instead? It's definitely a better choice. I am just guessing though.
Ellen McGuire November 05, 2011 at 08:08 AM
The last 2 nights the lights have been on in the old Roadhouse...I'm sure it's a timer, but they have not been on at all until recently. I don't know if it is BWW,but looks like it might be someone! I don't see a liquor license posted, though! I posted on their Facebook about a week or so ago & asked what was going on,as did someone else from Santee...I didn't get a reply & I don't think they did either. :(
Jay November 08, 2011 at 07:59 PM
I hope they do come...I need some WANGS!
Jay November 08, 2011 at 08:01 PM
The Roadhouse location is an even BETTER spot for a PHIL'S BBQ!
Ellen McGuire November 09, 2011 at 07:04 AM
I'd much rather have a BWW in the old Roadhouse! I just can't get that thrilled about Phil's...I guess I'm just spoiled by some of the great BBQ I've had in Phoenix...I know your going to say Phoenix? Yes,Phoenix! Honey Bears,Joe's Real BBQ...even Famous Dave's (yes,it's a chain, but it still has great BBQ) all have great BBQ! Texas Roadhouse would be great,in that location, too!. So different from the Roadhouse we had. That would actually be a good option for those who want Phil's...they have good ribs,& we'd get a great steakhouse, which I think we really need! Don't say Pinniacle Peak...yuck!
Big Daddy December 13, 2011 at 08:49 AM
"Pinnacle Peak"
Thomas January 05, 2012 at 05:05 AM
Buffalo Wild Wings is a family tradition back in Texas, now San Dieagans my wife and I are very excited to have one near by. No more trips to Temecula for W&W ( wine and wings). Our predictions are that this chain will be a major competitor in the San Diego area, beating out Oggies and similar bar/grills. Trust me San Diego, first trip to BWW will not be your last!!!!

B_dubs is the best wrong place on the planet! I miss it so much after having moved to san d. I went about once a week, and to clarify it is not a place for drunks, but sports. I have never seen a fight in one because their security is so great. And they don't focus in liquor they focus on beer and wings. Over sixteen sauces and they cater micro breweries.
Steve June 14, 2012 at 05:10 PM
Bringing up the point of Hollywood Video not having a liquor license is kinda' funny. I mean, why would they? I'm gonna' go out on a limb and suggest that the reasons Hollywood Video closed have nothing to do with the fact that they didn't have a liquor license...
Steve June 14, 2012 at 05:15 PM
What's the difference between a bar and grill and a restaurant which serves alcohol?
