Cover It Live

Over the weekend I tested out a new format of live reporting in two very different environments, with good results in both, I'd say. Cover It Live is a third-party tool that allows me to create a module that can be seen and interacted with in a Santee Patch story. This multimedia tool allows me to use my iPhone to quickly upload commentary, pictures, video, audio, select tweets by those on the scene, and other media at events ranging from to fires to festivals.

It makes posting on-the-go much easier for me, which means more content for you. It also allows you another way to comment, within the live module, and to send me a question that I should get faster than email.

It can act as many things, and I will be testing out how to use it best. Let me know how you like the new feature, and how you think it could be used better.

On this note, we are now able to embed html code, which allows us to use things like Cover It Live and Mapquest directly in a story. If you can think of some creative ways to use this feature to cover Santee news, let me know.

Federal, state and county offices in the Santee area are closed Monday in observance ofColumbus Day. Banks and  are also closed but most  and  are open.

Gas Prices

Nearly four weeks of steadily-declining gasoline prices has reversed in San Diego County, as the average price for a gallon of gas began to edge up this weekend.

A stretch of 26 decreases to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County in 27 days ended Sunday with an increase of three-tenths of a cent to $3.801.

The average price fell 17.7 cents over the past 27 days, including one- tenth of a cent on Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 3.4 cents less than one week ago and 17 cents lower than one month ago but 74.3 cents higher than at this time last year.
