Do You Want ‘Power Protein’ in Your Taco Bell Menu?

The chain known for its meaty and cheesy items is turning over a new leaf. Do you want health food at Taco Bell?

Do you favor a run to the border to satisfy your junk food tastes?

You may have noticed that at some Southern California Taco Bells, the chain, known for its “Fourth Meal” ad campaign, is trying to be healthier.

In recent weeks, Taco Bell outlets launched a new “Fresco Power” menu for the calorie and carb conscious. The offerings, including burritos and bowls, feature double the servings of beef and chicken for a total of 20 grams of protein per item, according to Time.com.

Time, USA Today and Business Week noted the changes are coming after Taco Bell took it on the chin in the UK press after horse meat was detected in its food.

The menu test will expand to Ohio in July, Time reported. Meanwhile, USA Today says the chain will have more healthy options available next year.

Santee's Taco Bell is at 9825 Mission Gorge Road.
