Santee Moonshine: BNS Brewing & Distilling Co. to Open Soon

Brewery, distillery and homebrew shop will open in March.

The second commercial brewery, first distillery and first homebrew supply store in Santee, BNS Brewing & Distilling Co., plans to open for business in March.

The company was started by two Navy SEALS and an East County Firefighter and features experienced local brewer Dan Jensen as head brewer. It will be located at 10960 Wheatlands Ave. at the far east end of Santee, just off SR-67.

According to their Facebook page, the Santee site is set to open March 1. The company's online homebrew shop is already open and you can find their "American Craft Brewing n' Bottling Kit" at local liquor stores.

The small batch distillery side of the operation plans to produce single malt whiskey, bourbon and "moonshine" in mason jars. The "moonshine" would offer six different flavors. The beer brewing will be done with a 10-barrel system.

According to an Eater San Diego article, BNS will have a beer bar and a tasting room for the harder stuff.

Their standard beers are set to include Gunfighter Golden Ale, Flintlock Black IPA, Revolver American IPA, Outlaw Western White Ale, Saloon Girl Saison, and Gatling Gun Imperial Stout. They will offer cans and 22 ounce bottles- the first canned beer to come out of Santee.

Coronado Patch interviewed Jensen for San Diego Beer Week 2011 as head brewer at Coronado Brewing Co.

"I believe San Diego is a great place to brew, because we have so many great brewers and they are all very willing to help each other out," Jenson said in that interview.

The other commercial brewery in town, Manzanita Brewing Company, will be opening their own distillery sometime this year.
