Farmers Market Fresh: Almond Joy

Family-owned Hopkins AG is back at the Santee Farmers Market.

Hopkins AG, a family-owned almond grower from Kern County, CA, is back at the with every type of almond you could want.

Raw, dry roasted, spicy, sweet or even "in-shell," these almonds are about the best quality around.

This vendor didn't just decide to start roasting almonds as hobby or anything- the family has grown almonds since 1978- so they know what they're doing!

I picked up a half pound of the Mexican chocolate flavored almonds and have been munching on them as a nutritous snack throughout the week.

The cost of a pound varies from $9 to $12 and a half pound from $4-$8.

The vendor said they hit just about every farmers market in the San Diego area and they roast about 1,000 pounds of almonds a week.

Their variety includes: Dry roasted, chipotle "spicy," Italian, peppered tomato, honey cinnamon, honey vanilla, Mexican chocolate, raw, raw "in-chell", raw and roasted almond butter and more.

You can find the every Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at 10445 Mission Gorge Rd., near the Pioneer Little League fields.
