Gas Prices Pass $4—And Keep Climbing

Gas prices rise again Monday after passing $4 for the first time since mid-June.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Monday for the 29th time in 32 days, increasing nine-tenths of a cent to $4.079, its highest amount since June 11.

The average price has risen 40.3 cents over the past 32 days, including 2.6 cents on Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 21.1 cents more than one week ago, 39.6 cents higher than one month ago and 33.8 cents greater than one year ago.

Analysts attribute much of the recent increases to last Monday night's major fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond that caused wholesale gasoline prices to rise Tuesday out of fears of decreased supply.
