Jimano's Pizzeria Closes Shop in Santee

Santee's short lived Chicago style pizza franchise has closed it's doors.

The Santee , one in a chain of Chicago style pizza parlors, closed its doors at the end of February.

It was a short run, opening in the summer with the Grand Opening party in October. The shop is bare, with the TVs, booths, taps and huge rotating oven packed away and moved out. The owners could not be reached for comment.

Santee is now down to about ten pizza specific restaurants.

This leaves another Santee storefront vacant, the 1,127 square foot shop is available for lease at 95 cents a square foot per month, according to the updated Loopnet.com property lising.

Too bad but that location is not a good one for restaurant business anyway. If Boll Weevil couldn't make it there, I doubt anything can.

They had great pizza but in this economy it was just to expensive. Hard to compete with pizza places offering pizza for as little as $5. I'm sad to see them go.

Really wanted to try it sometime. We went one evening, but it was so chaotic with uncontrolled kids running and screaming that we turned around and left.

Jimano's was very good, but a little "pricey".When we went there, we were the only people eating in & only one person came in for a to go order...I was worried about how long they could last. Too, bad you hate to see a good place fail.

Unfortunately, the small food businesses have a difficult time in Santee. The economy is not recovering, as fast as we hoped for. I hope we don't see more of this happening but I wouldn't be surprised either. Now we have another restaurant that is scheduled to open, where Hollywood Video use to be but they are a fairly large corporation across the U.S., so they probably can weather the slow days here and there better then the small restaurants.

I wish we would get a few more healthy choices like a Soup Plantation or just something a little more family friendly than the B and G's that are coming in.

We have really limited delivery choices in town. I don't think they did. We ate there once. The service was very very slow. The pizza was decent but really mo better than what we could make at home. There was something special that made we want to go. I would be really happy to go to mom and pop place. The food business is hard. I feel terrible for the loss of someone's dream. It

A new Boll Weevil is coming to the old Michael's Grill site. Does anyone know how long ago the Boll Weevil at this old location went out of business? Was Jimano's right after BW?

I'm glad to hear Boll Weevil is coming back. Boll Weevil was actually on the end where Pho is now. They closed down there about 5 years ago mahybe. That spot, and where Jimano's was, has been a number of restaurants the last few years. Boll Weevil did well there for many years. I remember going there 20 years ago. I think that Santee has many options and for years that's been a tough location with Mission Gorge traffic & awful parking when the tire center was in there. I hope the Pho restaurant does well there. I see a lot of people in there all the time.
