Phil's BBQ Seen at Old Roadhouse Grill Site

No, we didn't spot Phil himself, but a truck emblazoned with the restaurant's logo was parked at Trolley Square.

A truck belonging to Phil's BBQ Restaurant was spotted parked outside the former at Santee on Tuesday.

Does this mean that the popular San Diego-based establishment, which currently has locations in Point Loma and San Marcos, is coming soon to Santee?

Phil's BBQ declined to comment, but an employee did indicate that a major announcement could be made soon, and that a lot of locals spotted the truck and their phone lines were being "lit up."

Until then, Santeeans will have to make do with buying Phil's BBQ Sauce at .

Rumors that the restaurant was searching for a location in the Santee area have floated around town for months, and the Roadhouse Grill site was considered a possible location, but this was the first documented indication to verify those rumors.

Their website explains the Phil's BBQ style best:

"For the past thirteen years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite grilled baby back and beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches."

You can find a Phil's BBQ menu in the media box.

Check back to Santee Patch for confirmation and updates about Phil's coming to town.

Would love to see it! Since all the planets are aligning this year anyway this would be a perfect compliment to that! The problem I see is I think the location might be too small for Phil's. But hey there's room to expand the building! Keeping my BBQ fingers crossed!

Bib is tucked in, wet naps standing by, toe tapping, wallet open and ready! Please, powers-that-be in BBQ land, grant unto us this one favor!

They came to lunch at Mimi's Cafe around 1:30 and I couldn't resist, so I stopped by the table and asked. They confirmed that they are coming, but didn't give any other details.
