Whatever Your Love Life, There’s an App for That

From e-cards to love sonnets to matchmaking, there are plenty of Valentine’s Day apps.

If Valentine's Day is anything, it's a time when people everywhere become aware of their love lives. And depending on your status, the holiday means different things to different people. Whatever the state, there's an app for that:

—Maybe you've become painfully aware of the lack of a romantic partner, and are resolved to do something about it.

The PlentyofFish app, tied to the PlentyofFish.com matching service on the Web, takes the traditional approach for finding your match, and offers free apps for iPhone and Android

Perhaps you'd like to take a more spontaneous approach. Using the location data on your smartphone, two apps, SinglesAroundMe and CrowdedRoom, can let you know who's single and available in the area. SinglesAroundMe is based on GPS, and lets you know who's available based on distance. CrowdedRoom is tied to Facebook, and can let you know who's available in a specific restaurant or bar based on location Check-Ins. Grindr is popular with gays for the same location data approach.

—Maybe there's someone you're interested in, but only flirt with at this point.

Iflirt4U, a $1 app, let's your iPhone do the talking for you in a crowded nightclub. The app displays flirty phrases on the screen, one word at a time, in huge type. Hold it up, aimed at your target, and it will flash "Can I buy you a drink?" or “You are hot,” etc., to save your voice.

And speaking of voice, you might want to impress your romantic target by recording a love song karaoke-style and sending it to him or her. Take a look at LaDiDa, which is $2.99 for the iPhone. Even if you're not so hot at carrying a tune, the app uses artificial intelligence to correct the pitch and make you sound like a pro.

Or perhaps you'd like to impress with a love sonnet, but are rhyme-challenged. iWrite: Love Poems, $1 for iPhone, will help you compose instant love poems for your Valentine.

—Maybe you are in a romantic relationship and you're looking for a way to give it a spark.

Free Sex Coupons, a free iPhone app, lets you generate not-too-tawdry sex coupons you can email to your valentine. Samples include things like “Breakfast in Bed” or “Ten Free Kisses” to get you started.

Tom's Love Letters, for Android and iPhone, lets you use the popular Talking Tom Cat to record a virtual greeting card spoken by you and made into his voice, then send via email.

Valentine's Day – Cards is an app for iPhone and Android out just a few weeks that lets you create custom Valentine's cards and send them via email. There are more than two dozen backgrounds a wide choice of fonts.

Retro Valentines from San Diego's Reuben's Apps offers 10 different old-time Valentine's Day cards you can customize and send via email or post on Facebook.

—Finally, maybe you're getting over a romantic relationship and are less than happy with the way it turned out.

The Shoutz mobile app, available for both iPhone and Android, is having a contest this Valentine's Day. Dish the dirt on an ex, and the best story wins $100 and an Ex Knife set.

Even if you're a bit disillusioned you probably want to do at least something to mark Valentine's Day. Angry Birds Seasons has a special Valentine's Day addition to the game for you, on both iPhone and Android, with 15 “Hogs and Kisses” levels to get you through the day.
