Santee Named 'Playful City USA' For Second Year in a Row
The city is one of three in the county honored for a commitment to providing opportunities for children to enjoy the outdoors.
For the second year in a row the city of Santee has been named a "Playful City USA 2013" for showing a commitment to local parks programs and providing opportunities for children to enjoy the outdoors.
The award spotlights cities and towns that make play a priority to keep kids active and healthy.
Santee's many parks, playgrounds, joint use agreements with schools and nonprofits, and devotion to recreation around town helped earn the recognition.

With the title of "Playful City USA," Santee can also apply for select grants that would further enhance the park and recreation system in the city.
Santee is one of 217 cities (only 26 in California) to be recognized this year, and joins La Mesa and Encinitas as communities in San Diego County with the designation.
