Snow, Rain, Hail Pelt San Diego County; Another Storm Due Wednesday Evening

Heavy rain, hail and snow pounded San Diego County early Tuesday, but the precipitation was expected to disappear this morning before a less vigorous storm likely arrives Wednesday evening (see Santee forecast below).

The storm that arrived Monday is moving quickly to the east, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 9:30 p.m. Monday, the storm had dropped 0.5 in Santee; 0.75 inches of rain in Carlsbad; 0.95 in Vista; 0.55 at MCAS Miramar; 0.37 at Lindbergh Field; 0.32 in Chula Vista; 0.88 in Valley Center; 0.77 in Rancho Bernardo; 0.45 in Ramona; and 0.58 in Alpine.

An average of around 10 inches of snow accumulated in the mountains, where light snow showers were expected to persist until about 10 a.m.

Mountain areas are being swept by west-to-northwest winds blowing at between 25 and 35 miles per hour and gusting at up to 45 mph over the ridges, according to an NWS advisory.

Affected areas include Boulevard, Cameron, Campo, Cuyamaca, Descanso, Julian, Lake Henshaw, Morena Village, Mount Laguna, Oak Grove, Pine Hills, Pine Valley, Ranchita, Santa Ysabel and Warner Springs.

Travelers in the mountains were urged to carry chains, a flashlight, extra food and clothing.

A wind advisory for the deserts and a small craft advisory both expired at 7 a.m.

A freeze watch was scheduled to go in effect in the inland valleys at 10 p.m. but was canceled by the Weather Service this morning.
