, one of East County's premier neighborhood holiday light displays, sits a short walk from Santana High School in Santee.

First, to get there take Tomel Court off of North Magnolia Avenue to West Glendon Circle. See the light action 6-11 p.m. through Dec. 26.

Starlight Circle is a mash up of bright lights, colorful displays, lots of folks walking the streets and cars going in a slow line with faces stuck to the window.  There are a lot of brightly painted wooden mock ups of classic, and not-so-classic (Mario Bros. and Scoooby Doo) holiday characters in front lawns, something unique that I haven't seen much of in other light displays.

The light display tradition apparently started soon after the neighborhood was built in the early 1980s and has continued getting stronger since.

It's so fun to drive through Santee with so many houses lit up an decorated, and did you know your decorated house can help win Santee's public schools $100,000! The Patch Deck Your House contest started last week, all you have to do is upload a photo of your decorated house, vote for your favorite, and you can win up to $500 to pay your electricity bills and possibly win big for local schools. Santee hasn't entered many photos, so get entering!

Thanks to all Santee residents that spend all the time and money to light up the city during the holidays!
