One of Santee's hidden culinary gems tucked in an unassuming strip mall along Mission Gorge Road, SAB-E-LEE Thai Restaurant (9159 Mission Gorge Rd.), was recently given a glowing review by UT San Diego.

The restaurant specializes in food from Northeastern Thailand, also known as Isaan, with dishes like minced meat, lime and cilantro known as larb and Papaya salad. But, they also serve delicious versions of classic Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup.

The review notes that service is quick (there's never a wait), the menu is extensive, the food is fresh- overall it's an unexpected treat.

One revelation in the article is that Santee's Sab-E-Lee was once affiliated with the Original Sab-E-Lee in Linda Vista, but it was sold to new owners in years past.
