Mission Viejo Farmers Market Moving to Saturday

Mission Viejo plans to move its farmers market time slot following resident requests.

Here's good news for Mission Viejo residents hungry for fresh fruits and veggies on the weekend.

The city announced Thursday that on Feb. 23, the farmers market will shift from Friday to Saturday. It will continue to operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The change comes after the city received "multiple requests" for a farmers market outside the work week, said city spokeswoman Kelly Tokarski.

The farmers market brings fresh fruit, vegetables, monthly entertainment, artisans and gourmet food trucks to the Civic Center.

When the city council approved the current farmers market in Oct. 2011, city staff chose Fridays so library patrons would not fight for parking spaces with farmers market attendants. (The library is closed Friday mornings).

With the Saturday move, both the library and market will be open at the same time. Parking won't be a problem though, Tokarski said, because City Hall is closed on Saturday.

It will be nice to be able to go to the library and the farmers market at one trip... Kids will love that and we'll go more!
