A Santee family won a car through a giveaway on “The Ellen Show” for their passion for life despite a financial downturn for the family. The new 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo was delivered to their home on Caldwell Road Thursday.

Local Santee residents Marcus and Susan Conway won the car at a taping of the show in November. Marcus, a former warehouse supervisor, was recently laid off in August and has been married to Susan for 25 years. Susan is an assistant in a special education classroom.

Ellen selected the family to receive this new car because she was inspired by their continued passion for life despite the sudden dire financial situation.

This is usually a Catch 22 situation as the family cannot take possession of the car or sell it until they pay the sales tax on it, which could be several thousand dollars.
