World AIDS Day, Where to Get Testing Nearby

Health centers nearby provide free HIV testing. More than than 14,000 cases of HIV/AIDS have been detected in San Diego since the virus emerged 30 years ago.

Dec. 1 is World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day was established in 1988. The virus was first detected 30 years ago.

According to County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, through 2009 more than 14,000 AIDS cases have been detected in San Diego County.

HIV/AIDS rates in San Diego have declined consistently since 1993 and in 2009, 328 cases were reported. Youth 13 to 24 make up five percent or less of cases. Hispanic youth and adults cases made up about 40 percent of diagnoses in 2009, and have gradually increased over time.
