Karen Mays, Speech Therapist in Santee School District, Dies at 62

"Karen was all about the kids: she made them forget what they couldn't do and do what they thought they never could."

Karen Mays, who spent 30 years as a speech therapist at Pepper Drive School in the Santee School District, passed away on January 20 after a long battle with breast cancer, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Karen was all about the kids: she made them forget what they couldn't do and do what they thought they never could."

Born in Oakland, Karen and her husband Mark moved to San Diego in 1977.

Karen lived life to the fullest as an accomplished dancer and athlete, passionate cook, jewelry crafter, certified Pilates instructor, wonderful mother and much more.

"The Karen Mays Foundation," a fund providing breast cancer patients with Pilates classes, was established through the San Diego Foundation. Funds can sent to 2508 Historic Decatur Rd, Suite 200, San Diego, California 92106.
