Santee Native Dies in Crash at Fresno County Bicycle Race

Nicola Grossi, who "loved being on his bike" according to his wife, died after he lost control on a road during the Climb to Kaiser race.

Nicola Grossi, a La Mesa resident who grew up in Santee, died June 30 after he lost control of his bicycle and hit a tree while participating in one of the toughest bicycle rides in America, the Climb to Kaiser.

Grossi died at the scene of the crash in Fresno County. The Climb to Kaiser is 155 miles long and requires 13,500 feet of climbing.

According to friends, Grossi attended and while growing up, and lived in Santee until recently moving to La Mesa.
