Hard water in Santee??!!

 When we bought our home almost 3years ago I noticed a big difference in our water that leaves that yucky, nasty, almost impossible to remove white stained residue all over my dishes. Now it's affecting my washing machine too. Over that last 6 months it has significantly increased. I have to purchase water softener for dishwasher & washing machine, rinse aides blah blah, spend more $$ than I should have too. Both appliances are brand new high efficient machines (not cheap either!) and they barely rinse the hard water softeners away. I am fed up. What would cause this big change & does anyone notice? I called Padre Dam & they said I could pay to do a water test...ugh, more $$ out of my pocket. Not cool.
