Kathy St. Onge of Blue Thong Society Voted Santee Person of the Year 2012

She leads a group of philanthropic women who give back to the community and have fun while doing it.

Kathy St. Onge, director of the Santee Chapter of the Blue Thong Society, was voted as Santee "person of the year" for 2012 in a recent poll on Santee Patch.

The Blue Thong Society is a group of philanthropic women who give back to the community and have fun while doing it. They tend to remain humble and behind the scenes in doing work with Santee Santa's, the City of Santee, Santee Food Bank, Edgemoor Hospital, American Red Cross, Burn Institute of San Diego and many other organizations.

St. Onge described the group in an announcement calling for new members:

"We are a unique womenʼs organization that connects, inspires and mobilizes women to make a difference in their communities and around the globe. Weʼre modern, confident, professional and philanthropic- we connect socially, but with purpose and intent to make the world a better place."

Nominations for the "person of the year" were taken throughout December and the poll ran the final week of the month. St. Onge received 32 percent of the vote, and Sam Modica, Secretary of Santee Santas and a well known figure in the Santee philanthropy community came in a close second in the poll.

Sorry but Kathy is well deserving of this Title. She does many things for our community other than drinking cocktails with her Chapter. She was my Girl Scout leader for 13 years located in Santee. As a troop we were very involved with our community helping the City of Santee at their community events and decorating Edgemoor for the holidays. After me and my fellow Girl Scouts graduated from high school we took a cruse to the Caribbean. In the Grand Cayman Islands we volunteered at a children's school by donated crayons, books, and flash cards. Kathy has a passion for giving back to her community. She found the Blue Thong Society which is a great group of women who love to volunteer. My friends and I cant wait to turn 21 so we can join Blue Thong too and give back to our communities like we did when we were Girl Scouts. Needless to say I am sorry that you are disappointed but she is well deserving of this title and anyone can vote. CHEERS :)

What an incredibly unfair assessment you have made of this group! Blue Thong can mean either the underwear OR flip flops! Our ages range from the 20's - 60's. We are a group of woemn that like to socialize and have fun, all the while supporting the local Domestic Violence Shelter (The Iowa Group, Mississippi Sisters). I would suggest that you research this group more thouroughly before judging!, Even better, start your own chapter! I know nothing of the Santee Food Bank but I do know that Kathy St. Onge is as deserving as anyone! BTW, I am quite happy with my age! Yes, Cheers to the Blue Thong Society and to Kathy St. Onge!!

I am proud to be a member of the Blue Thong Society, and even prouder of all Kathy has done. She is the person who always comes up with ways to give back to the community. We are not a group of women "who do nothing but party!" If you truly want to know what BTS is all about I invite you to come to a meeting and see what we do! But be ready to volunteer!! And congrats to you Kathy- much deserved person on the year!

In these trying times, any gathering of benevolent persons is proof of society's redeeming qualities. The name they choose to call themselves, is irrlelevant. Besides, it's catchy, like it was meant to be..:) YOU GO GIRLS..
