Mast Blvd decision

First of all, let me say, shame on me for being at the recent Santee city council meeting to voice my support for the extension of Mast Blvd. to Lakeside. Having said that, I doubt it would have mattered much had I been at the meeting. This decision to not proceed with the extension was a forgone conclusion, as far as I'm concerned. The 4 votes against the road were from members more interested in getting reelected than doing good work for ALL of the residents of Santee. The arguments against the road amount to nothing more than a gob of spit. If a traffic increase was a real concern, then why was a traffic increase not a concern when the council enthusiastically gave a thumbs up to the 400 house project across the street from West Hills High School when an already congested road will become even more so with the addition of more traffic lights and cars belonging to the new residents? Income to the city probably trumped any traffic concerns. The cost was also flipped out there to rationalize not going forward with the road. The council members fail to mention that a number of years ago we could have gotten the road extended for about one third of the present cost, because the county was willing to pay a larger share. I think the council is more upset with the county for expanding Las Colinas than they are with the cost issue. A childish spat instead of good governance. And finally, I am a Santee resident living on El Nopal, and am personally offended that the council would actually verbalize that they place a higher value on the quality of life for those along Mast than they do for those of us who live along El Nopal. I think less people have died on Mast than on El Nopal. It is obvious to me that the time has come to clean house at city hall. For me the mantra will be to "vote the bums out'. Council member John Minto will be the only man standing, for he has the only logical point of view. Thank you.
